The Grade One, Two and Three syllabi aims to give a child a solid foundation of classical ballet. The classes are split into three sections; Classical, Free Movement and Character Dance.
Classical is the ‘ballet’ section and the most important, starting at the barre and moving into the centre giving
a child confidence in movement and performance.
Free movement is based on natural dance movements allowing a child to feel a sense of gravity and weight within their performance.
Character dance is based on a theatrical presentation
of national dance found in Russia, Hungary and Poland. Free movement and Character dance were included in the syllabi by the Royal Academy of Dance in order to assist and supplement the training of classical ballet, thus giving a broader dance education.
The classes are suitable for beginners as well as those who have already had some dance training. Should children wish to take a ballet exam they will be thoroughly encouraged as will those who just wish to take part for fun.
